What to wear for St.Patrick’s Day

In America we wear green on St. Patrick’s day. The wearing of green started in the 17th century in Ireland as a way to honor the patron saint of Ireland- St. Patrick.

There are several fun traditional symbols to consider when thinking about making an outfit for St. Patrick’s day. Shamrocks, leprechauns, rainbows, pots of gold and the Irish flag are all fun elements that can be brought into your St. Patrick’s day outfits.

How did the pinching tradition begin?

It’s common, especially with school age kids, to pinch their friends if they are not wearing green

Better Homes & Gardens says: The St. Patrick’s Day tradition was popularized by Irish immigrants in the United States, who believed that wearing green made them invisible to leprechauns—the classic fairy creatures who pinch anyone they can see.

Pinching people who didn’t wear green reminded them that leprechauns could sneak up on them at any time, which is how the wear-green-or-be-pinched tradition began.
