In 2008 after being married for one year I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in Fashion Design and immediately ventured out to the mid-west with my husband. I'm not gonna lie, I was not super excited about this move, I knew in my heart that it was the right thing to do for us but I was jealous of all of my friends from school moving to Manhattan. I told Matt that I only wanted to be in Kansas City one year, tops. Ha! The truth is we fell in love with Kansas City. We made great friends really fast which I believe is the key to being happy anywhere. We found great restaurants and entertainment and after being in an apartment for a year we bought a house and decided to make KC our home.
I'm a creative entrepreneur at heart and in the years since graduating from college I have bounced around between a lot of different ventures. When we first moved here I created custom wedding gowns and then after having a baby decided that it was a little too high stress for me. I then moved forward creating and selling totes and accessories made from recycled coffee bean sacks which are currently selling on Etsy. In 2012 I shipped out 900 totes and realized that turning my basement into a factory and myself (and husband and many friends) into a mass production factory worker was really not what I wanted to do with my life so I scaled back the green bean and the beginning of 2013 told myself I was just going to focus on being creative where it mattered, in my real everyday life.
Max was born in February of 2011 and June was born in August 2012- 18 months apart, and believe it or not we planned it that way. I know i'm cra-cra. I love my kids more than I thought was possible and yet I struggle from time to time with being a stay at home mom and trying to keeping up my creative skills.
I have always enjoyed making things and love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with a finished product. I believe that everyone can create a handmade life easier than they think, and with this blog I hope to inspire others to pull out their sewing machine, glue gun, or measuring cups and make things from scratch. I have realized that this blog is the perfect outlet for me and it motivates me to keeping creating to help others realize they can too.
I'm in constant pursuit of an organized home (which with two babies doesn't seem to be attainable) and a signature hairstyle which i will probably never find because I really love change. I enjoy all things brightly colored & well decorated, I love re-purposing & recycling, cooking & organizing. I am a self-proclaimed foodie and love to try new restaurants. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints and through my Savior I find peace and joy in even the most difficult-toddler screaming-days. I love to make new friends online but even more so in real life. Thank you for stopping by and reading this rambling of an introduction, I appreciate and value each and every reader, so thank you again. I hope you find something to inspire you while clicking around.
