KC Finds Friday: Novel

Novel Kansas City Restaurant

Last Friday Matt and i had a fun date night at novel.  Its only been open a few months and the menu is unique and eccentric. The location is in the 17th & Summit area next to fud and the bluebird bistro.  It used to be lil's on 17th (which we ate and and weren't impressed with) and now its this gorgeous little home of warm and beautiful cuisine. Now i'm not going to lie, it was not the best meal i've had in KC as some other urbanspooners claim, but it was good. We started with the fried pig head ravioli with wasabi sauce (1st picture on the left) and the crispy egg that was accompanied by tripe, bacon and chiptole; i thought both of them were good but not great the ravioli could have used another sauce i thougth and the crispy egg dish was really textural and i'm not sure in a great way. For my entree i ordered the scallops which i thought were the best thing i tasted the whole evening, with just a tiny bit of heat and a beautiful sauce it was a perfect main course.  Matt ordered the duroc pork chop which was large and in charge and had good flavor.  For dessert we had the apple cake and the chocolate peanut butter cake, both were good, but again i wouldn't say outstanding.

I might be a little harsh on novel because we are still quite vividly remember our trip to story just a few weeks ago that was so outstanding that nothing can compare just yet. :) I'm willing to give it another shot in the spring when the menu changes to accentuate all the beautiful spring bounty and report back.

Happy Friday friends, enjoy your weekend and eat some great food!
