Keep reading for all the details and free printables to download to make this fathers day extra special with the new release of Jack Ryan and a spy hunt.
After picking up this amazing deal at walmart I thought it would be fun to send Matt on a spy hunt this sunday instead of just wrapping it up and handing it to him. With such an affordable price ($12.96) you can do this from grandpa do if you want! Hurry to grab the double blu-ray feature because it is only available at that price through Saturday the 14th. So first step is go grab your movie pack. Then print out your set of free printables HERE. It includes 2 different sizes of "TOP SECRET meant only for the eyes of the world's best dad"- 1 for your large clasp envelope and one for the regular size, clue cards and the mission explained.
After you've downloaded there is minimal assembly to get your spy hunt ready. The first thing is making the initial envelope you will give him to open that will contain the spy mission in it which reads: "Your mission should you choose to accept it is to find an envelope with secrets inside meant just for you. It has been hidden so that others would not find it before you. There will be clues for you along the way that will lead you to its location. Good luck. Decode the hidden message below to find the first clue."
You'll want to cut the smaller of the top secret print outs to fit on top of the regular sized envelope. The easiest way to do it is to place the envelope on top of the words and trace around it, then cut a little bit inside of that line. I use double stick tape to attach the paper to the envelope.
Go ahead and tape the larger top secret page to the manilla clasp envelope that you will be putting the movie pack in. You'll want to cut the clue cards and also cut the mission information page down to the size of the envelope as well, do it the same way by tracing around the envelope. At the bottom of the mission card it says "promptly destroy this message" with a match washi taped to it. I just thought this was a fun little spy add on. :)
Now for invisible messages! How fun is this?! i was super excited when i read that you can use lemon juice to create hidden message on paper. You'll def. want to make sure you print out the cue cards and mission page on thick card stock. It doesn't work as well on regular paper because even when it dries clear the paper never recovers from being wet. To write your messages or clues take a toothpick and dip it in lemon juice and write with it. You want to use enough that it will turn a light brown when its heated but not too much that the paper will be too saturated, so practice a few times finding the right amount. When dad is doing the scavenger hunt he will have to bring every clue back to the stove to carefully heat it up to reveal the next clue. Using the lemon juice method the writing is still very light so don't expect a magic bright brown word to appear where you wrote, dad will have to look closely to find his clue.
I am going to tape the clues to different places and have them send him all over the house. I will probably attach some of them to candy or small gifts and then some to just places in our house. The final envelope with the movie I plan on placing at a precarious spot on the deck so it feels very CIA-esque. :)
Have fun on your spy hunt!
