I've been obsessed with circle skirts since before I can remember and when I was in middle school I became obsessed with I love Lucy. Seriously I remember being at my grandparents house for the summer watching marathons of I Love Lucy (the old school way to binge on a show) back to back episodes and laughing through each one. I'm pretty sure that was the start of my love affair with 50's clothing, oh and both my grandmother's wedding dresses were too perfect for me not to obsesses over them. Donna's dress shop here in Kansas City feeds my need for beautiful vintage fashion in the best possible way. From the graphics on the front window and side of the building to the perfectly balanced merchandise of vintage and new but looks like vintage, everything is beautiful. I used to think I was born in the wrong era, and then I remember that 50's men didn't help with children and I don't think I would have lasted ;). I think I'll just dress liked I lived it every now and then and get my fill.
The owner Donna is like a Kansas City icon, seriously she commits to her look. I've seen her at the farmers market and the airport and out other times and she always looks like she walked right out of a 1950's vogue. You can see her in the video on the shops website HERE.
It had been a few years since I had been down to the shop (I mean who wants to take toddlers to such a place?!) and fell in love all over again. I love that she has everyday clothing all the way to formal pieces. I can't wait to have an occasion to go buy something really spectacular!
Whats your favorite shopping spot in Kansas City? I'd love to hear!
