Ingredients for the best eggnog bread recipe:

I have a confession to make, up until a few weeks ago I had never tasted Egg Nog.  My husband was completely flabbergasted and honestly I don’t know why I had been afraid to try it. Its basically Christmas in your mouth. It may help that my first taste of Egg Nog was what many think of as the best possible version of Egg Nog on the market- AE Classic Egg Nog.

  • Egg Nog – This recipe uses eggnog in the bread and the icing so it really has a strong liquid Christmas flavor. This recipe uses classic egg nog without alcohol added.
  • Sour Cream & Milk- Along with the egg nog sour cream and milk makes this cinnamon bread recipe extra moist.
  • Flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla, egg & sugar– All your typical baking ingredients go into the batter for this sweet bread.
  • Cinnamon, Sugar & Nutmeg– These spices and sugar are the swirl ingredients that add that extra Christmas-y flavor.
  • Powdered Sugar– Mixed with Egg Nog the icing glaze that goes on top adds an extra special decadent topping.

How to make Eggnog Cinnamon Bread:

There are 3 parts to this eggnog bread recipe: the basic bread dough/batter, the swirl topping, and the glaze. It doesn’t take long to make and as it cooks your house smells heavenly.

Step 1:

Make the bread batter/dough. This is a sweet bread- similar to banana bread or pumpkin bread. It’s really more like a cake than a bread. So when mixing up the batter keep that in mind. This isn’t a dough that you’ll knead. I prefer to use my Kitchenaid stand mixer for this eggnog bread recipe. Mix all the ingredients together and place in a prepared loaf pan.

Step 2:

Make the swirl topping and swirl it into the bread batter! The swirl topping is simple but adds so much extra flavor and a little bit of crunch on top! After you mix up the topping spread it onto the top of the bread then take a knife and stick it into the batter and go in a figure 8 motion to swirl the topping into the batter. I left most of the swirl in the top half of the dough but the more you swirl the deeper it will go into the batter.

Step 3:

Bake & Make the Icing Glaze. Bake this eggnog cinnamon swirl bread for 40-50 minutes at 350 degrees. Check the bread at 40 minutes. Use a toothpick or knife to stick in to check if it’s done. If nothing comes off on the toothpick it’s done, if you’ve got wet batter keep it in for another 10 minutes. While the bread is baking mix up the glaze and set aside.

Step 4:

Let cool and glaze. Let the bread cool for at least 10 minutes before glazing and serving. The icing should be a runny consistency that you can just pour onto the bread loaf. Drizzle the glaze over the entire loaf, slice and serve! It’s delicious warm or cool!

The amount of nutmeg called for in the swirl was WAY too much. My loaf has become bitter and almost inedible with the teaspoon of nutmeg

@Samantha, it says 1/2 of teaspoon. 😬

Hi Samantha, I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm guessing your nutmeg might be a very potent one and mine not so much. I will change it to 1/2 tsp. Thanks for the comment.
