Special Needs Summer Camps in Kansas City

You might remember that I am a part of the Children's Mercy Moms Team and each month I write a post about kid's health needs. Follow Children's Mercy on Facebook and Twitter for more everyday parenting tips and follow the hashtag - #CMHMoms to hear more from Children's Mercy mom team.

Are you making summer plans yet? This is the time to start making summer plans for kiddos- especially when it comes to registering for camps of all kinds. Did you know there are some amazing resources for kids with unique health-related needs? For those who often tend to feel different than their peers, spending time at a camp where everyone is “like” them can feel great! I've got some info to share with you on several special summer camp options, some of which include services provided by Children's Mercy doctors and staff.
When I was growing up I attended 2 different church camps every summer and loved them, it felt so nice to be surrounded by kids my age that held the same beliefs I did.  I can imagine the same feelings would be felt by kids attending any of the camps listed below.  Feeling included in a group where people are going through similar struggles is invaluable.
When: June 6 – July 29, 2016 (8am – 5pm)
Where: Kansas City Christian School, Prairie Village, KS
Cost: equivalent of 80 hours of personalized treatment
Attendees: 6 – 14 years old
This camp is run by Children’s Mercy

-Camp ChiMer for kids with kidney disease
When: June 5 – 9, 2016
Where: Lake Doniphan, Excelsior Springs, MO
Cost: Free
Attendees: 9 – 17 years old

-Camp Joint Adventures for kids with juvenile arthritis
When: June 20 – 23, 2016
Where: Rotary Club Youth Camp Lee’s Summit, MO
Cost: $100/child; scholarships available

-Centerview Food Allergy Management for kids with food allergies of all kinds

What are you planning on doing with your kids this summer? Will you be registering them for any of these summer camps or others that you have found? I'd love to hear in the comments!
