So being a new mom you go through all these phases with your baby. We are now in the regular foods phase, well i should say regular foods that you can eat with 8 teeth and not choke on, but nonetheless you hand our little man a cracker and he’ll down it like no ones business. He might be a monkey because he eats a minimum of 2 bananas a day! Regardless I’ve decided to not just feed him all the typical white flour kid foods- crackers, bread, etc, and so trying to figure out what to feed an 11 month old is a bit of a challenge. This is where i turn to my favorite baby-toddler cookbook, the Petit Appetit Cookbook. Its awesome. I highly recommend it for making babyfood as well as good healthy toddler foods. It’s funny how much i’ve watched what i eat now because Max wants literally anything i put in my mouth and i don’t want to feed him crap- even though sometimes i know thats what i eat.
I’ve made a few things from the cookbook including muffins- which he loved but made a HUGE mess so i wasn’t so much a fan, and then last night i made the fruity puree cookies- and he loved them! Here is the recipe:
Fruity Puree Cookies
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup canola oil
1 cup apple puree (she says pear puree works well too) i used applesauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup oat bran
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup soy flour
Heat oven to 350. In a mixer combine sugar and oil until smooth. Then add remaining ingredients one at a time mixing after each addition. Refridgerate dough for 30 minutes. Roll 1 tablespoon-pieces into balls and placed on greased or parchment lined baking sheet. Flatten cookies with fork. Bake for 12-14 minutes.
And Here’s proof they were a success…
Btw- i love the baby bjorn bib- its a must have at this age because he catches like 50 percent of what he eats in his mouth and the rest would go in his lap if it weren’t for the “trough” of the bib, We also love our keekaroo high chair. it’s a lifesaver.
