Last week before we left for Nashville we went to eat at Rye, which has been on my to-do list since i heard about the opening earlier this year. We are big fans of Bluestem and Rye is the same husband and wife team that amaze us every time we eat at the westport gem. The idea behind Rye is to provide dishes that celebrate the chefs’ midwestern heritage but from a chef’s point of view. They are known for their fried chicken and it is delicious. I loved the modern farmhouse style decor with chalkboards, mason jars, and beautiful light fixtures. Everything we tried was melt in your mouth wonderful, the cheese plate was small but flavorful, the romaine heart salad was tradition yet more tasty than you would expect and all the sides were fabulous we enjoyed the cottage fries, carrots and mac and cheese. I also truly enjoyed their parker house style rolls and cornbread. The entrees were great, Matt and his brother Casey both ordered the friend chicken which like i said was delicious but i think the Pièce de résistance was the buttered hot shrimp that i ordered, perfectly cooked shrimp mixed with flavor packed pulled pork over a bed of anything but traditional grits. If you go you must try it. Honestly i don’t even really like shrimp or grits but the dish was impeccable. If we didn’t live a good 30 minutes from Rye i might be there more than occasionally!
