Last night was my ten year high school reunion. High school seems like forever ago but still its kind of crazy that it has been a full ten years. I was asked to do a few centerpieces for the event, and of course I was excited to make something fun and personalized to it being a ten year reunion. As a blogger I get some pretty fun opportunities and when I saw there was an opportunity to use this new Dremel Micro, I jumped at it. This tool is awesome! Light and easy to handle in tight spaces, the Dremel® Micro™8050 is packed with features that have crafters, hobbyists and DIYers in mind: soft grip, LED front-end lighting to illuminate projects, a docking station that continually charges, and an 8V Max Lithium-ion battery. I used it to make these wood engraved centerpieces!
Like I said it was easy to used and engrave! I love that is has a light on the end of it to brighten whatever little tiny space you are working with, the nature of the tool and the different attachments that come with it are meant for small intricate work and the light helps a ton. After I went over each letter inside the vinyl I removed the vinyl and then went back over each letter to make it a deeper engraving.
I actually really enjoyed doing this and kept thing of all the different applications for engraving that I could use it for!
To make it really pop I added gold paint. I took a really small paintbrush and tried to stay within the engraving lines. I think using some dark wood stain would also be cool.
It comes with 15 tools and I'm excited to keep using them for lots of different projects- the little sander heads will be perfect for giving furniture a weathered look, and so much more precisely than sandpaper in my hand. It has cutting blades for smaller cuts of projects which will be awesome to not have to get the huge saw out for small projects that the Dremel can handle.
To finish off the centerpiece I purchased the wood branches at the craft store, had my husband cut them down to 4, 5 and 6 inch pieces, tied bakers twine around them and then added a candle to the top. Simple, easy and pretty. The reunion was fun, low key and a great opportunity to catch up with so many people that I spent a lot of time with growing up. Cheers to reunions!
