Weeknight Pasta with Jarred Spaghetti Sauce Hack

Do you ever look in your pantry & fridge at 4:00 and realize you have no idea what you are going to cook for dinner? It happens to all of us, right?  Well my mom has this great hack for spaghetti sauce, so tonight when i knew i had pasta, ground beef and a can of Ragu on hand i sent her a text and asked how she made her sauce taste so good.  Tonights dinner which was on the track to be basic and boring turned out to be delicious! So next time your in a funk try this pasta with jarred spaghetti sauce hack, you'll be thanking me.

There are a few key ingredients that take this sauce above the ordinary including pesto and red wine. You're family will never guess you used a jar of sauce and it would take you less than half the time if you were going all the way from scratch.  I have to tell you my 3 year old who is quite the picky eater exclaimed "This food is delicious mom!" after taking a few bites, that right there is the true tastes good test! :)

Serves 6

Ingredients
  • 1 Jar red pasta sauce
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup basil pesto
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 lb pasta
Cooking Directions
  1. Over medium heat in a large stock pot sautee your diced onion and garlic until the onion is translucent. Add the ground beef and cook until completely browned. Add the pasta sauce, pesto, sugar and red wine. Let simmer for 30 minutes to an hour, until the flavors meld and it reduces some.  This is a great recipe to hide some healthy ingredients in, last night i tossed in 2 shredded carrots and 1 bell pepper chopped small.  Cook the pasta while the sauce is reducing according to package directions. Serve sauce over pasta, warm. Enjoy!
