Pilgrim Hat Cookies for Thanksgiving

Fudge Stripe Pilgrim hat cookies
I’m gearing up for another fun week, ok thats the optimist speaking.  Life has been a little rough lately with my two year old, he’s kind of like a tasmanian devil, destroying everything in his path as he runs around like a living tornado.  So i’m trying to figure out how to best parent him while also trying to distract myself with fun projects because if i dwell too much on how the tantrums never stop i just might be on the couch all day long with a never ending anxiety attack.  Seriously, the terrible twos is real people. very real.  If you have any tips i would absolutely love to hear them. So onward to more happy thoughts, Thanksgiving! Oh right that holiday that i’ve been prepping for that reminds me to count my blessings, including that little tasmanian devil 🙂
I made these pilgrim hats on Saturday.  They are so easy and i love that if you have slightly older kids than mine- lets say 4 and up it would be a great way to include them in the prepping and cooking on Thanksgiving day, its the perfect little project to keep them busy and have fun.
Ingredients:
Fudge Stripe Cookies
Reese’s mini peanut butter cups
orange icing -i used homemade buttercream here is a scaled down recipe if you are just doing this project:
1/2 stick or 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
      2 cups powdered sugar
      1/4 cup milk
      1 teaspoon vanilla
cream the butter and then add the other ingredients and mix until smooth- add your orange food coloring and your good to go.
To assemble place your fudge stripe cookies upside down and using a pastry bag pipe enough of your icing around the circle opening of the cookie so that it will spillover once you put your reese’s cup on top.   After you place your reese’s cup on top switch the tip of your pastry bag to the smallest circle tip that you have to pipe the the little square on the front of the “hat”.  Then you are done! i think these would be so cute at each place setting on Thanksgiving day.
