I.
I want to sleep through night without feeding a baby, I want to wake up in the morning- not be woken up by little voices or crying. I just want to sleep. and then after I wake up on my own and maybe read a chapter in the book on my nightstand in the quiet of my room I would love some flowers, chocolate and breakfast in bed. Doesn’t that sound heavenly?!
Maybe you need to copy and paste the link to this post on your husband’s facebook wall or just text it to him because I’m about to make his life a whole lot easier. I’ve got a recipe for the easiest and most delicious french toast I’ve ever made (and trust me it’s totally simple enough for him to make) and a secret to where he can click, click, click and order delicious chocolate covered strawberries and flowers to be delivered for you in time for Sunday. He’s going to have to figure out how to keep the kids quiet on his own, but I think he can manage. 😉
The rest of this post is written to you, dear husbands of the world.
Lets talk flowers and chocolate first, because that needs to be ordered soon. I received the perfect gift from Shari’s Berries, a beautiful vase of tulips and iris’s and a dozen deeeelicious chocolate covered strawberries. They were good, like so good. The flowers were so fresh and pretty and perfect for spring, perfect for her bedside table or to display in the kitchen. The berries will be perfect to put on her plate next to the french toast you’re going to make, and there will be enough to save for dessert on Sunday evening. The flowers are best if you get them a few days before Mother’s day because they need to open up a bit, they arrive in a box and you take them out and put water in the vase with a packet of the powdered plant food and then pop the flowers in. You probably want to have them delivered on Thursday- there is no extra shipping fee for Thursday but there is an added fee for Friday and Saturday because of Mother’s Day. So click over HERE and order, also there is a coupon page- so click HERE if you want to save a few bucks.
Next lets talk breakfast. Whether you make this french toast and take it to her in bed or invite her to the table she is going to appreciate not lifting a finger for a delicious treat. This simple salted caramel french toast is a treat, actually you might want to fry up some bacon to have on the side to balance out all the sweetness.
The secret weapon to this french toast is the bread. Brioche is the key, and guess what, I found a really good brioche pre-sliced loaf at walmart! Yep. Walmart. So even if it’s 10pm on Saturday when you’re getting around to reading this you can still run to your local store and grab it. It makes a HUGE difference when making french toast- honestly- get up and go to Walmart and get this instead of using the sandwich bread in your pantry. It will be worth it, I promise. Just so you are clear on what you are looking for you can see the a picture of the loaf HERE. St.Pierre brioche, made in France, sold at Walmart, whew knew?!
The second secret weapon is the caramel sauce. I like to make my own from THIS recipe, but lately I’ve been skipping that lengthy step and buying the Smucker’s version at the grocery store. It’s actually really good. You can see it HERE so you know what you’re looking for and it will be in the aisle with the chocolate sauces.
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon vanilla
- 8-10 slices brioche bread
- 1 jar salted caramel sauce (found in the aisle with the chocolate sauces for ice cream)
- powdered sugar
- whipped cream
- PAM cooking spray
- Whisk the eggs until beaten, add the milk, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla and mix until all combined.
- Heat a saute pan to medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Dip a piece of brioche bread into your egg mixture and make sure both sides of the bread are coated. Place on your pan and let cook for a minute or two. Flip the piece of bread and cook the other side. Remove from the pan, place on plate and repeat with the rest of the bread.
- To assemble take a spoonful of caramel sauce and drizzle over the piece of french toast, sprinkle some powdered sugar over and then layer with another piece of french toast. I did a stack of 3 pieces per person. Top with whipped cream.
